Welcome to the opening ceremony of this year “Dans på Stranden”.

LINDY HOP

SLOW BALBOA TASTER

Slow Balboa is based on regular Balboa, but was developed decades later than regular Balboa. The main difference is not only that the 2 beat “slow” from regular Balboa is replaced with a tripple based rhythm in slow Balboa, but also that the feeling is much more down and down, where as regular Balboa is a little more “floating” on the dance floor.
You do not need any prior Balboa or slow Balboa knowledge, because we will start with the basic and give you solid foundation to build upon. If you have prior Balboa experience or just get the movement really fast, Jon can give you instructions on what to try while Annette and I continue with the basics – differential teaching based on students skill set.

We just opened the registration for A beginners weekends and B beginners’ continued. At noon on THURSDAY THE 13TH OF JUNE we open the registration for the rest of them. Everyone that signs-up the first 48h will have the same chance to get a spot as we will raffle the queue at noon on Saturday.

Most courses can already be found in the schedule but lots of details will be updated during next week.

NEW THIS FALL

We have managed to squeeze in C an D on Mondays near Kårhuset and will also extend the social dance as the last class ends 21.15. There will be an Extra B level where every one learns to both lead and follow (ELEF).. A full semester 10x E and 5x F starting after E has finished so that you can take both. Fast Lindy + Arial + California Routine. In addition we are planning to add at least one beginners continued weekend workshop and some kick ass jazz theme classes in August…

Spring finale and summer swing

Spring season is coming to and end with our last Monday Night Swing in Lund on the 10th of June and Cats’ Corners’ last Wednesday Night Hop on the 12th of June.

After that there is no big break as the first of three Swing n’ Blues Summer Sessions outside Moriska Paviljongen kicks-off on the 14th of June. In Lund Swing in the Park premieres the 19th of June and “dans på stranden” has a joint inauguration for all dances the 23rd of June, continuing swingin on the beach in Malmö every Sunday all summer…

There is also lots of other summer swing dance events all around Öresund. Most of them are imported daily from 10 different organizers and conveniently gathered in our calendar.

Swing in the park ends on the 7th of August and Monday Night Swing is back on the 12th of August. We are guessing that Cats’ Corners Wednesday Night Jump will jump start around the 14th of August.

Specialkurs till ett mycket förmånligt pris endast för dig som är student och/eller under 26 år

Tycker du det verkar roligt att dansa, men har aldrig vågat själv? Eller dansar du redan, och vill prova något nytt? Är du nyfiken på swingdansen lindy hop? Heptowns nybörjarhelg i Lund i sammarbete med Teknologkårens Danskurser kan då vara något för dig!

Denna grundläggande kurs är till för dig som inte har några som helst kunskaper i Lindy Hop, eller som gått någon enstaka kurs för länge sedan och behöver putsa upp grunderna igen.

Du kommer att lära dig olika grundsteg, de vanligaste turerna och grundläggande förar- och följarteknik. Målet med nybörjarkursen är att du ska kunna dansa socialt med oss andra på danskvällarna.

Till våra kurser kommer deltagare ensamma, i par eller med ett gäng vänner. Om du anmäler dig i ett par (förare + följare) är ni garanterade plats så länge kursen inte är fulltecknad. På kursen roterar vi med jämna mellanrum och byter danspartner.

Our introductory course is for those who have no knowledge of Lindy Hop, or took a couple of courses a long time ago and need to brush up the basics again.

You will learn different basic steps, the most common figures and basic leading/following techniques. The aim of the introductory course is to enable you to dance with the rest of us during social dance nights.

The workshop is a two-day introduction to this cool thing called Swing. We promise a workout worth a fitness centre combined with more fun than you’ve had for weeks. But be warned – it’s addictive…

The course is arranged as a collaboration between Teknologkåren’s Dance Courses and HepTown.

Monday Night Swing + ELEF Lindy Hop class for beginners 10/6

The last Monday Night Swing this spring kicks off at 7-8 pm with a ELEF Lindy Hop class for beginners. No previous experience is needed.

ELEF = Everybody Leads and Everybody Follows!

After the class more happy people will join in to swing-out out at our annual social dance at Kårhuset in Lund. Music from the good old days will be hovering over the smooth dance-floor. Where would you like to be?

The course is open to everyone but this particular course has bigger youth and student discounts as well as extra discount for LTH students as it’s arranged in cooperation with TLTH’s dance courses.

Do you like to dance or would you like to know how? Does “gangster swing” and “updated retro coolness” sound interesting? Then HepTown’s beginners Lindy Hop weekend workshop in Lund is the thing for you!

Lindy Hop Beginners’ Weekend in Lund 24-25/8

Our introductory course is for those who have no knowledge of Lindy Hop, or took a couple of courses a long time ago and need to brush up the basics again.

When: Saturday & Sunday 11.00-16.00
Where: Gasquesalen, Kårhuset, John Ericssons väg 3 in Lund
Requirements: NONE (bring flat indoor shoes and some lunch – that’s all)
Price: SEK 400-850 (see below for details)
The HepCat member prize for this beginners weekend is 800 SEK and HepCat membership costs another 50 SEK per semester.
Young people under the age of 26 and all students receive 40% discount using the booking code UNG or STU

Lindyhop Camp at Fridhems Folkhögskola

If you can´t make it to Herräng this year, a week of lindyhop classes at this cosy “Folkhögskola” might just be the option for you! There will be five days of classes, 5,5 h/day, lot´s of fika and hangout at the bar, and at least two nights of social dancing.

Mattias Bruzelius & LinaMaria Bengtsson from Hep Town/Cats Corner will teach and all meals and accommodation is included in the prize. Right now there are places available for those who lead or wants to learn how to lead.

Swingin´Midsummer Picnic with Live Music

Summer is coming and we´ve got grrrreat news for ya´ll!
As part of the traditional “midsommarfirande” in Folkets Park you can this year not only dance Små grodorna around the pole, but also Swing out at the new wooden floor by the big stage in Folkets Park. Their will be a lindyhop performance on stage and a quick taster for everybody at 12.00 The Swing Street Orchestra will play from 12.30-13.30. So bring your picnic and dancing & non dancing friends and all their kids and families!

11.00 – 12.00 Traditional midsummer dances and music with The Carr Family.

Fast Swing Fling

Fast Swing Fling is the first event in a series of three, focusing on Ladies who Lead, better known as #LeadingLadies. This event will offer a wide array of fast swing dances, to cater to new dancers and experienced dancers alike. All classes will be open-role, which means that you don’t have to sign up as a lead or follow, but just show up to the class you fancy. Some of the teachers run their classes in ELEF (Everybody Leads, Everybody Follows) style, some prefer to have you pick a role at the beginning of the class and stick with it throughout the class.

Everyone is welcome to join, regardless of dance ability and gender, and the event will have a Code of Conduct to ensure that everyone feels safe over the weekend.
