Lindy Hop is an African American street swing jazz dance. It evolved from many other dances in the late 1920s and early 1930s in Harlem, New York.
It is a partner dance usually done to swing jazz music and it is one of the most improvisational, funn and expressive partner dances around.

Again the Old Christmas must occur! On Dec 8th, we are hosting our annual Hepcats Sunday Swing X-Mas Dinner’n’Dance. It’s gonna be a traditional X-Mas lunch spiced up with Swingin’ Hepcats Traditions followed by social dancing to live music by Tuxen Lockjaw. So – polish your dancing shoes and join us at Kulturhuset Indre By on December 8th, at 15.45pm.

Karlskrona December Swing hålls den 6-8 december och är en helg fylld av blues, slowdrag och slow lindy. Kurs på lördag och söndag, dans till liveband på fredag kväll och lördag kväll!

Fredag kväll

Socialdans i Filmsalen, Gullberna park, till The Mellowtones och Swing-DJ.
Prova på Lindy hop för nybörjare med fokus på 6-counts kl 19:00-20:00. – Ta med dina vänner som inte testat Lindy hop tidigare! Lär dig grunderna i Lindy Hop och dansa vidare till liveband under kvällen.

Workshops lördag och söndag

En nivå; blues, slowdrag och slow lindy.
Registrering sker på lördag 9:30-10:00, Gullberna Park, entréhallen vid Filmsalen.

Philippa Svensson och Vivien Nivesse (Malmö)

Philippa och Vivien möttes på dansgolvet 2011 och har dansat tillsammans sedan dess. De har undervisat och tävlat tillsammans över hela Europa så väl som i deras hemtrakter (Oxford UK, Paris, och slutligen Malmö). De anser att par-dansandet utgår från individuella kroppsrörelser och musikalitet -men att en stabil teknisk grund också behövs. Med Philippas bakgrund i gymnastik och fysioterapi, och Viviens gränslösa entusiasm, så vill de dela med sig av idén att du bör lämna varje dans med ett stort, orubbligt leende på dina läppar!

Karlskrona December Swing is a weekend (6-8 December) filled with blues, slow drag, and slow lindy. Workshops on Saturday and Sunday and parties with live bands on Friday evening and Saturday evening!

Friday evening

There is one level of blues, slow drag and slow lindy.

Saturday and Sunday classes will be held at Gullberna Park in Filmsalen. The first class starts at 10:00 and the last class for the day ends before 16:00.

Main event teachers

Philippa Svensson and Vivien Nivesse (Malmö)

Philippa and Vivien met on the dance floor in 2011 and hit it off immediately. Since then, they have been teaching and competing together across Europe, as well as in their respective scenes (Oxford UK, Paris, and finally Malmö, Sweden). They believe that couple dancing finds its roots in solo body movement and musicality -but solid technique is a must. With Philippa’s background in gymnastics and physiotherapy, and Vivien’s boundless enthusiasm, they want to share the idea that any dance should leave you with a big, unshakeable grin on your face!

Lindy Hop Beginners’ Weekend in Lund 15-16/2

Beginners weekend in Lindy Hop aka jitterbug , an African American couple swing dance from the ’30s Harlem, NY. This class is targeted at adults BUT teens that are OK taking classes with adults are also welcome to join.

Beginners’ Lindy Hop track for youth and students in Lund Spring 2025

Beginners’ youth & student track in Lindy Hop, an African American couple swing dance from the ’30s Harlem, NY. You will learn enough to dance with us at our social dances, continue on any of our B-levels, and be the sought-after dancer at the next student ball.

This particular course is only open to students and young people aged 26 or younger.

In this course, everyone will learn both leading and following.

NOTE! We have many other courses open to everyone, regardless of age.

with a total of 7,5h of classes + >10h of social dancing included.

Lindy Hop Aerials, Beginners Workshop with LinaMaria and Mattias!

Workshopen omfattar åtta timmars undervisning under två dagar och kommer att ta upp grundläggande teknik (hållning, timing, landning, uppvärmning etc.) för att arbeta med aerials.

Flera enkla, men effektfulla, aerials ingår men även mer avancerade aerials att arbeta vidare med efter helgen.

Kursen riktar sig till främst till akrobatiknybörjare men även par med tidigare erfarenhet är välkomna att repetera och jobba vidare med de mer avancerade aerialsen. Det finns inga krav på nivå inom Lindy Hop, alla är välkomna.

Under workshopen arbetar man tillsammans med samma partner och därför rekommenderar vi att man anmäler sig i par.

Deltagande sker på egen risk men vi kommer att lära ut samtliga aerials steg för steg tillsammans med passare för att det skall kännas och vara tryggt och säkert.

Dansetikett: Aerials är väldigt roliga och effektfulla att göra men p.g.a. av skaderisken skall de inte göras på socialdansgolvet. Aerials passar däremot väldigt bra på uppvisningar, i jam circles eller vid sidan av dansgolvet!

The workshop includes eight hours of teaching over two days and will cover basic techniques (stance, timing, landing, warm-up, etc.) for working with aerials.
Several simple, but effective, aerials are included but also more advanced air aerials to work on after the weekend.

The course is aimed at aerial beginners, but couples with previous experience are also welcome to rehearse and take part in the more advanced aerials. There are no level requirements regarding Lindy Hop, everyone is welcome.

During the workshop you will work together with the same partner and therefore it is recommended that you register in pairs.

Dance Etiquette: Aerials are very fun and spectacular to do but due to of the risk of injury you should not do them on the social dance floor. Aerials, on the other hand, are very suitable for shows, in jam circles or beside the dance floor!

10 – 12.30: Level Frankie (Intermediate)

Level description:

To join, you should be familiar with basic 6- and 8-count variations, comfortable doing swingouts, and have tried some basic jazz steps and a routine like Shim Sham. You should have attended classes regularly for at least 6 months and be curious about working with concepts such as musicality.

14.00 – 16.30: Workshop: Level Norma (Experienced = Intermediate Advanced/Early Advanced and up)

Level description:

You have been dancing for at least a year and attend classes and social dances regularly (yes, you need to be active on the social dance floor to qualify 🙂 ). You are comfortable with medium to fast music, have a repertoire of solo jazz steps and have probably done routines like Trankeydoo or Big Apple. Your focus is on the quality of your movement, rhythm and communication with your partner rather than learning new moves and you’re ready for a challenge in these areas.

Party

The workshop is followed by a dinner and a party with two dance-floors and Dusty Rag playing 3 sets of music for dancers.
