Monday Night Swing + Beginners Lindy Hop Class 9/5

Join us and swing-out on the big smooth hard wood dance floor in Gasquesalen at Kårhuset in Lund.

For those that are new to swing tonight the evening starts with an included 1h Lindy Hop class for beginners. It’s a taster class were we will in a fun and easy way will give you some moves to later use on the social dance. To leran more join the beginners weekend.

Come and swing it at the weekly social dance at Kårhuset in Lund. Music from the good old days will be hovering over the smooth dance-floor. Where would you like to be?.

We mostly dance Lindy Hop but you can often find someone dancing Balboa and Collegiate Shag.

Lindy Hop Beginners’ Weekend Lund 19-20/2

The course is open to everyone but this particular course has bigger youth and student discounts

we limit the number of participants to a maximum of 40 people and skip the normally mandatory change of partners. You should ofcourse stay at home and let us know if you have the slightest cold symptoms or the like which can be a sign of covid-19. You will then get your course fee as a credit to be used for a later course.

Do you like to dance or would you like to know how? Does “gangster swing” and “updated retro coolness” sound interesting? Then HepTown’s beginners Lindy Hop weekend workshop in Lund is the thing for you!

Our introductory course is for those who have no knowledge of Lindy Hop, or took a couple of courses a long time ago and need to brush up the basics again.

You will learn different basic steps, the most common figures and basic leading/following techniques. The aim of the introductory course is to enable you to dance with the rest of us during social dance nights.

The workshop is a two-day introduction to this cool thing called Swing. We promise a workout worth a fitness centre combined with more fun than you’ve had for weeks. But be warned – it’s addictive…

  • When: Saturday & Sunday 11:00-16:00
  • Where: Mejeriet, Stora Södergatan 64, Lund
  • Requirements: NONE (bring flat indoor shoes and some lunch – that’s all)
  • Price: SEK 400-900 (see below for details)
  • The HepCat member prize for this beginners weekend is 800 SEK and HepCat membership costs another 100 SEK per semester. For youth below 27 it’s only SEK 50

What is Malmö Spring Jump?
Malmö Spring Jump is an international swing dance festival in Malmö, located in the very south of Sweden. There will be Lindy Hop workshops, social dancing to great live bands, and lots of other fun activities!

The corona restrictions in Sweden will be lifted from February 9th

The pandemic is not over but it is now entering a new phase where restrictions are no longer needed.

We’ll keep most of our precautionary measures for a while longer but can now soon start social dances and increase the number of course participants who in several venues have now been limited to 14 people.

Most courses have already been postponed to the middle/end of February, thus it is not too late to sign-up.

Vaccination remains important to reduce the risk of infection and greatly reduce the risk of serious illness. The interval for the 3rd dose has now been reduced to 3 months.

You do not to be a Swedish citizen to get vaccinated in Sweden!

We are also pleased to announce that our friends from Cats’ Corner will be arranging their fantastic Lindy Hop dance camp Malmö Spring Jump the 13-15th May 2022. During the weekend, a beginners’ weekend will also be offered in collaboration with HepTown

Decisive factors for the removal of the restrictions in Sweden

  • Knowledge of omicron with several international studies showing milder disease
  • The number of covid patients at intensive care is stably low despite massive spread of infection
  • High vaccination coverage with a high vaccination rate in recent weeks

What about Lindy Hop courses and social dances?

  • The social dances will return in mid-February. Preliminary start the 14th February
  • We can now accept more than 14 participants for a course in a large 170m2 room but will continue to avoid unnecessarily large course groups.
  • We keep most of our previous measures such as keeping the partner rotation on the courses down for a while longer
  • Staying home when you are ill has always been a good idea. Let’s make it a permanent rule!
  • We still like to see that participants are vaccinated, but from 9 February it is no longer a requirement we can make.

BIG thank to teachers, volunteers and participants who participated in the autumn semester!

Registration for the spring semester courses opened yesterday, but no stress as everyone who registers until 12.00 on 28 December has the same chance of getting a spot as we will raffle the queue order.

New for this year is that Wednesdays will offer various shorter theme courses. Some of these are already published and open for registration. More will be published and open for registration on the 12th and 19th of January. Feel free to come up with suggestions and wishes! Do you want to teach a theme course yourself?

New restrictions from the 23rd of December 2021

What do they mean for our courses and social dances? According to estimates, the peak of the spread of infection will be in January, thus restrictions can possibly be released before the course semester start in mid-February, but at present no dates have been set. If they are not released and for courses and social dances before that, it could look like the following

Social dances

At public events, to which our social dances in their current form are assumed to belong, only seated guests are allowed if there are more than 20 people. A return to antisocial dance training with a permanent partner and pre-registration may be relevant here as a substitute for the social dances

Classes

For culture and leisure activities, requirements are set at 10 square meters per person. This, our courses should follow even if the course activities are closed arrangements that are not legally covered by these requirements. A smaller number of participants in each course and a return to smaller rotation groups may be relevant here, or a delayed course start.

A maximum of 50 people when renting out places for private gatherings applies to those who rent out venues for classes to us, but we are already staying way below that.

Monday Night Swing the 20th of December is cancelled, but we will be back the 10th of January at Mejeriet and at Kårhuset the 17th….

At the last Monday Night Swing this year we kick off the evening with a 1h beginners lindy hop class 18:15-19:15.

Årets stora dansfest är nu gratis och öppen för alla åldrar. Det blir en intensiv blandning av Salsa, Lindy Hop (swing), Tango och Rumba Flamenca, med överraskningar på scenen och på dansgolvet.

Vi börjar kvällen med workshops i respektive dans. Vi erbjuder fyra omgångar med kurser (enligt schemat nedan) och ni har därför chansen att prova alla fyra danser. Efter kurserna fortsätter vi med dansgolv där vi blandar hejvilt salsa/swing/tango/Rumba Flamenca med tre olika dj’s.
