BAND BIO

Roaring Cats are one of Europe’s most promising swing and hot jazz bands. The tiny orchestra based in Amsterdam took the challenge of giving value and new significance to the roots of jazz.

Their repertoire consists of original arrangements of the finest tunes by the top artists of the 30’s and 40’s: from Fats Waller to Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington to Jimmie Lunceford. On top of that, they are presenting original compositions in style. Swell notes for hyperactive swing dancers and for sedentary drinking listeners.

The idea is to have a DJ WorkShop home at DJ Todd’s. Where we focus on the music. Talk about how do we pick and find “good dance music” … what is “good dance music”? … things we need to think about when we want to DJ during the social dance. And anything else you might be interested in to talk about.

The Plan:

16:30 – People start showing up
17:00 – DJ Anton has a talk about “DJ:ing” …
17:30 – We order some food
17:45 – While the food is being delivered, we’ll divide into smaller groups and workshop a 15-20min playlist according to “a team”
18:15 – When the food has arrived. We gather in the living room. Feast and listen to each others playlists. Smalltalk about the music. etc etc.
19:00 – Free to stay and continue listening to music and dance

Solo Jazz Dance & Street Dance Tuesdays in Malmö: beginners and beyond,

Solojazz / Autentisk jazz är solodansen (där du dansar själv utan partner) inom swingfamiljen. Med många olika steg och rutiner är solojazz ett fantastiskt sätt att få kroppskontroll, motion och fart på fötterna. En belöning i sig själv och också obligatorisk för alla Lindy Hoppers som vill utvecklas.

Du är mycket välkommen oavsett förkunskaper, ålder och dansförmåga. Solo Jazz passar både den som redan dansar Lindy Hop och den som helt enkelt vill börja dansa solo till swingmusik utan att ha provat andra swingdanser.

“This course is not about learning a routine or the ‘perfect/correct’ way of solo jazz dancing, this workshops is about learning to have fun with solo jazz and getting yourself more comfortable with experimenting and solo social dancing to swing music!”

During four evenings we will dig into:
* Solo moves:
learn a handful of different basic solo jazz moves to help build you solo jazz vocabulary. No previous experience required. (You are allowed to skip the first two lessons if you already know a lot of Solo Jazz moves)

Improvisation and experimentation:
we will build on the basic moves and learn to dance freely and expressively, you will learn tips and tricks to experiment and play around with the moves which can be applied to solo or partner
Social solo jazz: learn to dance solo jazz socially, no need to be scared it’s super fun and this class will show you! Social solo dancing is also perfect for these weird pandemic times.
