Balboa på Globen

Balboa er en swingdans fra 1920erne, som man danser to og to, hvor en leder og en anden følger. Man danser til swing musik, og fordi trinene er små, kan man danse hurtigt og på lidt plads. Man behøver ikke meget mere end en glat trappesten. Det er sjovt men også elegant. Kom og prøv fra kl 19:30, og dans med os bagefter fra kl 20:30..

Hepcats Copenhagen proudly presents Hepcats’ Sunday Swing – the Copenhagen swing community’s social dancing Sunday hang-out.

THIS WEEK WE START WITH A FREE INTRO TO SWING DANCING AT 15.00 (no need to sign up, just come as you are!)!

The DJ will be in their place, and the dancers will be moving their feet like there’s no tomorrow. You don’t need to bring a partner, all you need is the will to swing! Everyone is welcome! Come as you are:)

Per Ols Bryggare är en garagebryggklubb bestående av sex lite till åren komna herrar med stort ölintresse. Efter att i alla år ha fokuserat på konsumentaspekten har vi nu slagit oss på producentsidan. Med mer passion än precision har vi bryggt oss igenom de flesta ölstilar och känner oss för det mesta nöjda – ibland rentav stolta över resultatet.

Vi brygger med vår hembyggda elektriska 3-kärlsanläggning med 125 liters kapacitet. Den 24:e februari finns vi och anläggningen på Farmshack där vi tillsammans med er brygger en välhumlad American Pale Ale. Den producerade vörten delas efter bryggsessionen upp mellan deltagarna som tar med sig varsin hink hem för jäsning, flaskning och konsumtion.

Shim Sham Workshop with Kuno!
This workshop in Shim Sham is for both complete beginners and people who have experience with Shim Sham. We will differentiate the teaching so that there will be something for everyone!

For the Shim Sham beginners we will go through a detailed breakdown of the classic choreography.

For the more experienced Shim Sham dancers there will be several challenges. We will try interesting variations of the classic steps with challenging rythms. Once we have the whole choreo ready, we have the ultimate challenge for the more ambitious: mirroring the whole choreography!

If you have some clothes or accessories that you don’t use anymore, but you would like to give them a new home (and earn some money on it), bring them to the party, and sell them in the flea market! It can be just one thing, or a bunch of things!

We will provide you with an envelope, so that people who pay with cash can put the money directly into the envelope. You can also write your phone nr on the price tag, if you want people to pay with Mobile Pay.

Teacher’s presentation
Eva was introduced to balboa in 2005 in Malmö, and soon after this dance had stolen her heart. She’s been around Europe at many dance camps and also taken privates from the best.
She started teaching 2008 at her home club WCJ, to share her love for balboa, and has since been teaching around the world.
The magic in the intimate dialogue between lead and follow in close position balboa is something that she wants everyone to experience.

Born dancing in the Swing revival in Canada, Kyle has been swinging since the late 90s and helping spread the love of these dances all over the world. Passionate about the pulse and connection that allows balboa to set itself apart from the rest of the swing dances, he is excited to continue to bring new inspiration and excitement to balboa dancing in Skåne since moving to Gothenburg in 2016!

Takes you on a journey to a bygone era, a nightclub in 20-30’s Harlem where people meet to dance, listen, have a drink and eat or just hang out to enjoy the unique atmosphere.

DRESS CODE

There is no dress-code but fell free to suit up och steal a hat from grand pa.

DANCE CLASS

The evenings always take off with a brief crash course in Swing dancing so you can enjoy the music on as well as off the dance floor. This evening you will learn the Balboa 19-20 and 20’s Charleston 20-20:30

This workshop is open to all humans – e.g. experienced dancers, new dancers, non-dancers, people who like fluffy animals, people who doesn’t, gluten and lactose intolerants, and people who are hairless unicorns…

Registration: PM to Isabella. We would like to have anyone able to attend regardless of funds, so pricing will be on a sliding scale. We suggest a donation of 500 kr to cover for the transatlantic flight, but even your kind smile is also appreciated. Please pay attention to spots are limited. Don’t wait to register!

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Blues Classes

Bar Blues: Reaching for a Folk Narrative and Folk Education.
Taking a Blues class is a recent invention of our sub-culture. Historically, there was music, so people danced. We were together, so we danced together. Dance in many communities learned like we learn our first language; from the beginning, and by doing. This class attempts to recreate this Folk Education narrative of Blues through the use of creative pedagogy, somatic exercises, and dancing.

Fusion Classes

Downtempo and Micro: Looking at the wide world of Downtempo Electronica and Micro.
This class will be looking at EDM music, 90 beats-per-minute and under, promised. Call this a slow dance class if you will, I call it our dance community’s current love-affair. Dancing to those rhythmic kicks and snares, ticking away with our swooning little heartbeats. boom-kah..boom, kah.. boom, kay… boom. at that gorgeous 72bpms, hearts beating away.

Welcome To The Club: The Fusion Club
Fusion isn’t a Ballroom dance; rather, it’s a Club or party dance. In this class, we’ll take the cultural space of a Club or party, and add partner dance. We’ll dance to the hottest music being released today from around the world, and put it in partnership, with all the important details and refinement that makes for the best party experience.

Q&A

Will there be a party? Yes! the wonderful cabin will turn from teaching ground into dance floor in the nights <3 (no capa limit on the party)

Is the workshop good for beginners? Justin has an immense talent in describing quality of movement and connection, and a lot of the stuff we will be covering will focus on connection fully down to the basics. So beginners are very welcome – and they will recieve a great gift in getting instructions from Justin so early in their blues life <3

Connection? Im an advanced dancer! Will it be boring for me? Although those of us that have been dancing for a while probably all have heard and trained the basics of blues a lot, we all can improve all the time. And remember there is more than one way to connect, to pulse, and so on – and even more than the 10 you might know. And I can guarantee Justin will teach you something you never knew before. BUT besides that.. Justin also has a big suitcase of creative and musical dance inspiration to draw from, and we have asked him to bring it!

What to bring for the workshop: Lunch (or take-away), Water, Shoes or socks nice for dancing (smooth-ish soles), Extra shirt?

Train Hop 14/1 – 18

Information
Train Hop is a weekly training event for swing dancers in Malmö. Bring a partner if you need one, or come prepared with things to work on by yourself. We all try to help one another, but you are responsible for your own practice.

It is not a social dance or a class – but you also don’t need to be doing super serious hardcore practicing. Goofy dancing, lazy stretching, and sitting down and talking is completely allowed. Beginners are especially welcome ♥

Ask for lindy hop in the reception if you don’t know where to go. The event is for free, but remember to write your name, personnummer and address, etc, on the attendance list – Studiefrämjandet needs it to get government funding for all the amazing stuff they do.

Like planning? Our spring schedule is Sundays 18.15-20.30 in room 307 at Studiefrämjandet in Malmö.
