SHAG

The Collegiate Shag (or “Shag”) is a partner dance done primarily to uptempo swing and pre-swing jazz music (185-200+ beats per minute). It belongs to the swing family of American vernacular dances that arose in the 1920s and 30s. It is believed that the dance originated within the African American community of the Carolinas in the 1920s, later spreading across the United States during the 1930s. The shag is still danced today by swing dance enthusiasts worldwide.

Precis som all annan swingdans föddes bluesdansen ur afrikanska rytmer och rörelser. Bluesdansar gör man till långsam musik med mycket känsla – blues helt enkelt. Känslan är viktigast, stegen är sekundära. Blues är en mer intim dans som hör hemma i rökiga juke joints och på sena efterfester.

This weekend is a perfect opportunity for those of you who want to learn the basics in many dances without taking a full workshop or semester of classes. Kick start your fast dancing skills during our Fast Feet University Weekend!

Each dance “subject” will last for two hours with two classes per day. Our weekend subjects include:

We set up our biggest studio so that there is both an area to dance and play in, as well as an area to sit and chat in.
This will allow you to have some lovely dances and/or talks with the other parents, while you can still keep an eye on your children. The music will be played in a child-friendly volume.
You can invite your children to dance, or you can sit with them and look at others dance – depending on what you feel like.

Family Swing coming up next Saturday, the 16th of November!

This time the event will have two parts:

10.00-11.30: Family Groove dance session with Signe Frydenlund.
(Come and get ready from 10.00 with dancing from 10.30-11.30)
Signe is one of the most experienced dance teachers in Copenhagen, especially when it comes to families and kids.
She writes the following about Family Groove:
“Family Groove is a playfull and super simple way of moving to inspiring music. This session will be adjusted to whoever is there (babies, kids, parents, grandparents) but the aim is to have fun no matter what age. The important thing is to share the joy of music across generations and that everyone feels free to move in their unique way. Some of the music will be swing music but we will also play with other genres. If you plan to join, please write the age of you kid(s) in the comments.”
Price to participate in this dance session: 110kr per adult joining. This price includes participation in the open dance afterwards. Kids with adults join for free.

Copenhagen Balboa Weekend – Saturday night party

Join us for a delightfull evening party for Fast Feet of all swing colours – Balboa, Shag, Charleston, faster Lindy Hop.
Local favourite gypsy jazz band “To konger og en knægt” will play three sets to get our feet moving.
In between sets DJs will play traditional faster swing music.
The party is part of Copenhagen Balboa Weekend.

Hej alla gulliga nybörjar-lindyhoppare! <3 Vad kul vi har haft på våra introduktionshelger.

Snart börjar höstens B-kurser och innan dess vill vi passa på att bjuda in er alla till ett Bring your own dinner-häng där vi käkar ihop och umgås över helgkursgränserna, eftersom ni ändå kommer blandas beroende på vilken av våra fina B-kurser ni har anmält er till. Vilket alldeles fantastiskt tillfälle att få lära känna varandra och socialdansa ihop redan innan kursstart! 😀 Hurra!

Kom till kårhuset klockan 18 på måndag med matlåda (eller mat att bjuda på om du vill). Där finns bord och stolar och swingmusik och lösgodis och Håkan och Stina och vi är så himla taggade på att få hänga med er!

Sen går vi allihopa tastertimmen tillsammans och sen TAR VI ÖVER HELA SOCIALDANSGOLVET mellan 20 och 22 och dansar trippelsteg och follower goes tills musiken tar slut!

It’s time for another great sunday Boogie!

What is boogie woogie?
Inspired by rock ‘n’ roll music from the 50s, boogie is a high energetic and incredibly fun partner dance which is danced to music that you won’t want to sit still too.

What’s going to happen during the evening?
18.30 the event starts off with a 30minute theme class for int+ levels with Rainer Jussila Långström & Jenny Louise Gustavson
19.00-19.45 will be a beginners class in boogie woogie for all levels to learn this amazing dance!
19.45-21.30 social dancing and free to practice comes next, try out the dance, listen to some great music and have some fika!

Wednesday Night Hop with Coffee and Cookies 11/9

Welcome to Cats’ Corners swingin’ Wednesday Night Hop at Spegelsalen. Unfortunately Moriskans grand ballroom is not available but instead, the social dance will be held in Spegelsalen together with coffee and cookies a.k.a. fika which is included in the door fee. The swingin social dance starts at 7.45 pm!

Members who bring homemade cookies do not have to pay the entrance fee. 🙂

Welcome to Cats’ Corners swingin’ Wednesday Night Hop at Moriska Paviljongen. The evening includes a beginners’ Blues dance class at 8 pm which continues with a Blues social dance. At the same time the swingin social dance in Morsikans grand ballroom starts at 7.45 pm!

BLUES

Precis som all annan swingdans föddes bluesdansen ur afrikanska rytmer och rörelser. Bluesdansar gör man till långsam musik med mycket känsla – blues helt enkelt. Känslan är viktigast, stegen är sekundära. Blues är en mer intim dans som hör hemma i rökiga juke joints och på sena efterfester.

Summer decide to show up once more and what better way to honour it than dancing in to the sunset? The Location is at Ribban, the wooden floor next to T-Bryggan.

Just to be clear, we will be dancing to swing jazz music. With that said, any dance interpretation is of course allowed 🙂

Water is still warm(isch) so if you feel like, bring your swim clothes!

Monday Night Swing- Unholy takeover- Offroad edition

The ordinary Monday Night Swing is canceled due to lack of venue.

But we all know that does not stop dance-nerds, as long as there is a tiny bit of summer left.

Let’s meet in Stadsparken in Lund where sommarswing was.
I will bring my boombox, you will bring a picnic and let’s strengthen our ankles by doing some offroad grass dancing.
