EXTRA: In the side room Spegel Salen we have a fast Floor 20-21ish with a short drop-in Balboa class for beginners 20.15-20.45

The drop-in class is included in the regular entrance fee and you are very welcome regardless of age, membership, dance ability, with or without a partner and if you are a student or not

Dance Shoes

(Almost) any pair of shoes can be swing dance shoes, though you most often see people wearing a mixture of tennis shoes/sneakers/gym shoes, leather soled shoes, and suede soled shoes. Heels are less common, although some people dance in heels (particularly Balboa dancers). Avoid spiky and high heels. Cheap hard plastic shoes often slide better than expensive rubber soles, so if you’re just getting started or are on a budget these kinds of cheap shoes are recommended. 

Avoid outdoor running shoes. Especially those with black soles that leave marks on the floor

The most important part is the soles of the shoes.

Why?

Slide versus traction. Dancers are looking for shoes that allow them to move on the floor. Some floors are more slippery, and some less, and therefore many dancers have a mix of shoes on the rubber to leather spectrum (sticky/lots of traction to super slippery spectrum).

As a general rule, leather and suede soles will provide more slipperiness, and rubber soled shoes will provide more traction. Cheap plastic shoes often slide better than expensive rubber soles, so sometimes cheapest is best!

Make your regular shoes dance shoes

You can turn any pair of flat soled shoes into dance shoes by gluing leather or suede onto the bottoms. Local cobblers can do this for you, or you can do it yourself. The strongest cement glue is recommended.

How to suede your shoes.

In a pinch, you can even put nylons or socks over the front part of your shoe to slide better.

On Monday

Join us for our weekly Monday Night Swing social dance, at Kårhuset in Lund.  Mondays also offer Lindy Hop classes on many levels.

Note that some events are moved due to other aktivitets at Kårhuset. Always check the calendar before you go

On Tuesdays,

we have our new Solo Jazz tracks, which you can combine with Lindy Hop classes that same Tuseday evenings.

On Wednesdays,

our friends at Cats’ Corner have their big weekly social at Moriskan. Wednesdays also offer Lindy Hop classes on all levels, including the must-have swing-out block, Balboa on two levels, and Swing Kids.

The evening starts with a short taster class in Lindy Hop aka jitterbug , an African American couple swing dance from the ’30s Harlem, NY. This class is targeted at adults BUT teens that are OK taking classes with adults are also welcome to join.
Just come and join us, no partner and no registration needed.
This class is taught in English as there is always lots of tourists joining
This course is aimed at adults, but teenagers who dare are welcome to participate.

FLYING LINDY HOP

Acrobatics in Lindy Hop is actually forbidden on the social dance floor but fun to practice and very stylish in a show or a jam. In tonights taster you get a chance to try som easy lifts and jumps that does not require a fixed partner

Kan jag komma med på kurs utan partner?

Det korta svaret är JA, men då det ofta är fler följare än förare som anmäler sig och många förare är sena med att anmäla sig är risken stor att du först hamnar i kö. Detta då vi antar följare i samma takt som fler förare anmäler sig för att inte riskera att det blir stor obalans på kursen.

Avboka din anmälan omedelbart om du inte kan komma, även om du fortfarande står i kö. Detta säkerställer att eventuella sista minuten-platser erbjuds nästa person i kön.

Kan jag byta dansroll för att på en plats?

JA! De flesta erfarna dansare kan både föra och följa. När du anmäler dig är du välkommen att välja vilken dansroll du vill. Om du bara vill dansa och inte bryr dig om du får föra eller följa, skriv bara in ”SWITCH” i kommentarerna.

Om du redan är anmäl skicka då ett mail om att byta

Som nybörjare anger SWITCH att du är redo att lära dig föra eller följa beroende på kursens balans. Som mer erfaren dansare anger SWITCH att du redan har erfarenhet av båda rollerna.

Hur gör jag om jag hittat en partner efter min anmälan?

Om du hittar någon att anmäla dig med som inte redan är anmäld, be hen göra en anmälan och skriva ditt namn i kommentarsfältet så parar vi ihop era anmälningar. Du får då en plats förutsatt att kursen inte redan är full.

Nybörjare som råkat göra separata anmälningar och sen direkt hör av sig kopplar vi ihop och räknar som paranmälan, men en erfaren dansare som försöker par anmäla sig med en annan sedan länge antagen dansare accepteras inte då det skapar obalans på kurserna.

Kan jag komma med på kurs utan partner?

Ja, vi tar in fler följare i samma takt som fler förare anmäler sig. Hur stor chans det är att komma med beror på hur många som är före i kö och hur långt det är kvar tills kursen börjar.

När får jag besked?

Då vi tar in fler följare i samma takt som fler förare anmäler sig beror det helt på när de anmäler sig, vilket de kan göra fram tills kursen börjar. Om du får andra planer och inte längre önskar stå kvar i kö är det viktigt att genast avboka så att plats direkt kan gå till nästa i kö. Du avbokar enklast genom att klicka på avbokningsknappen i ditt kursbesked.

När ska jag betala?

Du betalar först när du fått en plats. Eventuell rabatt får du i alla fall även om du då inte kan betala tidigt.

Anmälan till vårens kurser har precis öppnat, men ingen stress då alla som anmäler sig fram till kl 12.00 den 21 december har samma chans att få en plats då vi lottar köordningen. Läs uppdaterad info om lottning och kö.

Vi börjar året med en inofficiell Blues-dansfest 6 januari . Monday Night Swing drar igång 15 januari och Cats’ Corners startar sin Wednesday Night Hop 10 januari. Alla tre inkluderar en drop-in-klass för nybörjare att skicka dina vänner till.

Wednesday Night Hop at Moriskan drivs av Cats Corner, en separat förening med ett separat medlemskap, men vi rekommenderar det starkt ändå.

Vi behöver båda fler volontärer för att få det att hända.

The Black Cat’s Blues Dance Party 6/1 2024

The Black Cat is finally back with one of those infamous “underground” parties. This time in a free attic edition at NGBG in Malmö in cooperation with Erik, Jared and anyone that wants to get involved.

  • NGBG downstairs is open from: 18:00
  • Food is avalible from: 19:00 (or a bit earlier)
  • Beginners Blues dance class in the attic: 20-21
  • Blues party in the attic: 21:00 until late night
  • Arrive before 22:00 when we lock the gates

The attic blues party starts at 20:00 but you are welcome to hangout downstairs at NGBG from 18:00. As usual there will be art exebitions and other cool stuff happening. NGBG will have some simple and very affordable food and drinks.

MANDATORY NGBG MEMBERSHIP

Welcome to Cats’ Corners swingin’ Wednesday Night Hop in the grand ballroom at Moriska Paviljongen.

EXTRA: Tonight we kick off at 18:30 -19:30 with a one hour drop-in Lindy Hop class for beginners in the big ballroom.

The drop-in class is included in the regular entrance fee and you are very welcome regardless of age, membership, dance ability, with or without a partner and if you are a student or not

Note! Most other evenings start at 20:00 and does not include a drop-in class for beginners.
