Blues originated from African-American culture and started at the fields where the slaves started to sing their working songs back in 1800.
Blues is a dance that everyone can dance just because it’s simply an expression of the music, although the dance can be both advanced and a simple two-step dance.
Blues gives people a vibe of coolness and connection to the ground and through this, it opens up for the dancer to be creative both solo and together with a partner!

At this course, we’re gonna invite you all to the basics in blues dance and give you some tools to start your blues dancing.
This is for you who never tried blues before, or for you who has some experience but want to learn more about blues.

Fast Feet April – ELEF edition: Collegiate Shag

För få danser på en kväll? Trött på väntelistor? Ta chansen att utforska danserna Balboa och Collegiate Shag i april och lär dig dessutom båda rollerna genom undervisningsmetoden ELEF (everybody leads everybody follows). Vi lär oss alla att föra och följa och du får dubbelt så många att dansa med!

Collegiate Shag
I denna kurs får du grunderna i båda roller i Collegiate Shag. Den riktar sig både till dig som är helt ny och till dig som gått kurser innan. När du får större inblick i den ena rollen utvecklar du en större förståelse för den andra roller också. Vi leker med grundsteg, teknik och turer och ger dig en bra grund att stå på så du känner dig redo för dansgolvet.

Take the chance to explore the dances of Balboa and Collegiate Shag this April and even learn both roles through the concept of ELEF (everybody leads, everybody follows). We will all learn how to lead and follow and you will get double the amount of people to dance with!

Collegiate Shag
In this class, you will learn the basics in both roles of Collegiate Shag dancing. It’s suitable for both complete beginners and for those who attended classes before. When you have a better insight of one role you will engage a greater understanding for the other role, too. We will play around with the basic steps, technique, and movements and that will give you a solid foundation to be ready for the social dance floor.

Lundasnurren 2019 är här!

Den 19 maj 2019 klockan 09.00 öppnar vi dörrarna för Lundasnurren. Nytt för detta året är att vi kommer hålla till i Lomma Dansrotunda.

Tävlingen erbjuder regionala klasser i Boogie Woogie, Rock n roll, Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing, och Bugg. Buggen kommer även att erbjudas i nationell C klass. Utöver dessa klasser kommer distriktscupen deltävling 2 finnas samt utmaningen i både vanlig bugg och slow-bugg.
Dagen kommer helt enkelt att bjuda på massor av dans och glädje 💃🏼 🕺🏻

ELEF = Everybody Leads and Everybody Follows.
To master one role in a dance you also need to understand the other and the best way to do that is to experience it for your self. In addition there will be twice as many you can dance with on the social dance floor.

In this course you will learn to both lead and to follow!
Everyone dances with everyone!

FEEDBACK
In this course you will also be asked to give and receive feedback from both teachers and course mates.

Brighten your lunchtime with music and dance! From 11:30-13:30 there will be Swing music playing in Malmö University’s Niagara building. Come and social dance, try out dancing, have a chat with us or just enjoy the music! At 12:30 there will be a performance of the Shim Sham.
This event is open to everyone, students, staff, the general public, all are welcome because swing dancing communities worldwide believe in inclusivity. This event is organised by the Dancing Student Group as part of the Kåren Inclusion Week.
At the event you can also get in contact with your local swing dancing communities Cat’s Corner (Malmö) and Hep Town (Lund) for more information about fantastic events, professional classes, workshops, and festivals – such as Malmö Spring Jump!

The Revival 2019.

The Revival is about bringing back a time when people went out social dancing and enjoyed the company of others with the same appreciation in music.

We invite everyone to come enjoy our ideas about music and dancing. The classes focus on the original Balboa, Bal-Swing, in addition to other Jazz era social dances. The evening parties all feature live music and offer a lot of social dancing time.

We moved outside Malmö so you can dance, eat and sleep at the same place.

Teachers, bands and ticket release will be announced soon. Stay tuned

Lindy Hop Continued Weekend in Lund 18-19/5

The course is open to everyone but this particular course has bigger youth and student discounts as well as extra discount for LTH students as it’s arranged in cooperation with TLTH’s dance courses.

On this level we continue with polishing the basics set during the beginners’ weekend. We will also work with the details that will improve the feel and look of your dancing.

As this weekend has 8h of classes and the B-course as a full semester has 15h, it is not equivalent of a full semester

NOTE! This course picks up where the beginners weekend ended. Thus you really need to take the beginners weekend or similar before taking this course.

Do you like to dance or would you like to know how? Does ”gangster swing” and ”updated retro coolness” sound interesting? Then HepTown’s beginners Lindy Hop weekend workshop in Lund is the thing for you!

Our introductory course is for those who have no knowledge of Lindy Hop, or took a couple of courses a long time ago and need to brush up the basics again.

You will learn different basic steps, the most common figures and basic leading/following techniques. The aim of the introductory course is to enable you to dance with the rest of us during social dance nights.

The workshop is a two-day introduction to this cool thing called Swing. We promise a workout worth a fitness centre combined with more fun than you’ve had for weeks. But be warned – it’s addictive…

Annual Meeting 2019 and Afternoon Dance

Året har knappt börjat och det är tid för årsmöte i Cats’ Corner igen?! Anledningen är att stadgarna ändrades vid förra årsmötet och datum för årsmöte nu är Januari till Mars.
Mycket av det som skall avhandlas är redan hanterat på årsmötet i December så det blir ett kortare möte med fokus på ekonomin för 2018 och budget för 2019.

Precis som all annan swingdans föddes bluesdansen ur afrikanska rytmer och rörelser. Bluesdansar gör man till långsam musik med mycket känsla – blues helt enkelt. Känslan är viktigast, stegen är sekundära. Blues är en mer intim dans som hör hemma i rökiga juke joints och på sena efterfester.

### SHAG
The Collegiate Shag (or ”Shag”) is a partner dance done primarily to uptempo swing and pre-swing jazz music (185-200+ beats per minute). It belongs to the swing family of American vernacular dances that arose in the 1920s and 30s. It is believed that the dance originated within the African American community of the Carolinas in the 1920s, later spreading across the United States during the 1930s. The shag is still danced today by swing dance enthusiasts worldwide.

Monday Night Swing + Lindy Hop class for beginners 3/6

The second to last Monday Night Swing this spring kicks off at 7-8 pm with a Lindy Hop class for beginners. No previous experience is needed.

After the class more happy people will join in to swing-out out at our annual social dance at Kårhuset in Lund. Music from the good old days will be hovering over the smooth dance-floor. Where would you like to be?

World Lindy Hop Day – Picnic + Social Dance Flashmob!

The 26th of May is the ”World Lindy Hop Day”.

Let´s celebrate this with a Flashmob of social dancing to spread our wonderful dance to new people.

A boombox will be playing great swing music at a certain time and we will start dancing like there is no tomorrow. when the music stops, we disappear like ninjas in the night.

We will meet up at 14:00 With a Picnic and gathering. Later we will move on to stortorget.
