Known for their incredible ability to teach across broad skill levels, they ensure that every dancer, from the absolute beginner to the seasoned pro gains deep, transformative insights.

Expect high-level technical coaching, soulful movement, and, of course, the infamous parties that Malmö is known for. Whether you’re here for your first steps or to master the nuances of the dance, this weekend is for you.

We are thrilled to have our local, internationally renowned powerhouses Philippa & Vivien leading these sessions. They are exceptionally skilled at teaching broad skill levels, ensuring that everyone, from the absolute novice to the seasoned pro, walks away with new insights.

Course levels

All classes upstairs at Festsalen, Ungdomens Hus, Norra Skolgatan 10B, Malmö

• The Core Track (4h): Whether you register for Beginners/Fundamentals to Intermediate or Intermediate to Advanced, this is a full 4-hour deep dive.
• The Ambitious Option (8h): For those who want even more, you can register to both tracks. Many experienced dancers find the morning fundamentals to be the perfect technical springboard for the afternoon sessions.
• From Beginners’/Fundamentals to Intermediate level
  11:00-13:00, Saturday and Sunday
  This level is designed to be truly accessible; if you have never danced Blues before, this is the place for you. However, Philippa and Vivien teach with such depth that even advanced dancers will find the technical refinements and foundational work incredibly valuable for their growth. Thus this level is also for those that have taken a few tasters or a beginners course.

• From Intermediate to Advanced level
  14:00-16:00 Saturday and Sunday
  Following the same inclusive yet challenging philosophy, this track is tailored for those with a solid grasp of the dance. The instructors layer the material so that intermediate dancers can level up, while advanced dancers are pushed to explore more complex nuances and musicality.

Blues dance parties and socials

• Saturday Night: The Big Blues Bash 20:00 – Until the clocks jump (or a bit later if the floor is jumpin’ too…)
  Barnens Scen , inside Folkets Park, (near Falsterbogatan 17), Malmö.
  A huge upgrade featuring a beautiful circular wooden dance floor, a great hangout area for socializing, and it’s much closer to both the workshop venue and Triangeln station!
  This is our signature event! A high-energy, late-night party with plenty of space to dance, socialise, and put those new moves to the test. If you’ve heard about Malmö’s ”infamous” blues parties, this is the one.

• Sunday Afternoon: The Wind-down Social 16:00 – 20:00
  Ukrainian Beer Bar,  Amiralsgatan 6, Malmö
  We’re finishing the weekend with a cozy takeover of a local bar. The dance floor is tiny, but the atmosphere is great! This is a more relaxed, ”exclusive” social for workshop participants.
  

Both parties are included when signing up for a course level. A limited number of tickets for Saturday party only, registration opens at noon Feb 17th exclusively for active dancers in our community, members of sibling organizations, and personally invited guests. There will not be any tickets available for the Sunday social as that is a very mall venue.

🤫 Possible Friday? We are looking into hosting an unofficial ”Speakeasy” on Friday night in a small gritty, bluesy venue near Folkets Park. This depends on the interest so make sure to mark this in the registration form if you’d like to kick off the weekend early.

What is Blues Dancing?

Blues dancing is not just one single dance; it is a soulful family of vernacular dances with deep roots in African American culture and history. Unlike dances that rely on rigid patterns, Blues is built on connection, improvisation, and a raw conversation with the music.

It is a dance of contrasts: it can be grounded and powerful, or soft and intimate. It ranges from the rhythmic energy of a ”Juke Joint” style to the elegant, flowing movement of ”Blues Ballroom.” At its heart, Blues is about feeling the groove rather than just memorizing steps. It’s expressive, rhythmic, and as you’ll soon find out incredibly addictive.
