Welcome to Fast Feet Novcember! This month we focus on theme classes in Balboa and Shag.

Each class is 4 hours, one dance per day.
Not sure if this is right for you? The levels are open but you should be comfortable with your basic steps in order to participate in this class.

Din swingdanskurs gör dig berättigad till friskvårdsbidrag

Ditt företag är berättigat att ge dig en skattefri personalvårdsförmån som ofta kallas friskvårdsbidrag. Har tidigare hänt att företag påstår att dans inte räknas men numera står motionsdans t.o.m. specifikt med i skatteverkets definition.

Hur mycket får man maximalt i friskvårdsbidrag?

Det finns från skattemyndigheten ingen övre gräns så länge samma villkor gäller för alla anställda. Det är med andra ord din arbetsplats som bestämmer hur mycket pengar du kan få tillbaka.

We were very much looking forward to meeting you all here in Malmö and we know you were looking forward to coming here as well. We really hope that the pandemic will get under control sometime this year and that we will get a chance to meet you here for a new Malmö Spring Jump in 2021.

All the people registering from the 31st of January to the end of the 2nd of February (Friday-Sunday) will get a random placement in the queue. This allows everyone that registers early to get an equal chance to get accepted.

Welcome to Malmö Spring Jump 2020, 1-3 May

C.W. Stoneking (solo) + support: J Tex – Mejeriet, Lund

C.W. STONEKING (AUS)

Vi är otroligt glada att presentera den mytomspunne artisten C.W. Stoneking för första gången på Mejeriet. “Oväntat” är kanske det ord som bäst beskriver C.W. Stoneking. Eller, hur ska man annars beskriva en sådan stark fanbärare av amerikansk “roots-music”, som visar sig vara en ungdomlig vit australiensare. Han förbryllar de som hör honom för första gången och utmanar sina mest trogna fans var gång han gör något nytt. När han fick frågan vilken artist han helst vill arbeta med, svarade han: “Kanye West” – ett svar som hängde i luften en stund.

Förmodligen är det lättast att beskriva Stoneking som en ‘bluesartist’, men det är lätt hänt att den beskrivningen döljer vad som verkligen gör hans musik speciell. Det finns mycket däri! 1920-talets före-kriget-blues ligger till grund för mycket av hans musik – men även New Orleans-jazz, hokum, country, calypso och tidig rock-n-roll. Det som gör hans musik riktigt speciell är att han lyckas blanda dessa stilar från olika världsdelar och tidsepoker och få det att låta helt naturligt. C.W. Stoneking är även en otrolig historieberättare med mycket humor vilket är tydligt i hans textskrivande.

Han beskriver med egna ord: “It’s getting everything to unify really. The music,the flow of it, keeping it moving, with no dead spots. Then I guess having the lyrics and the meaning that flows in that too, you know? Getting it all to knit together in a way that, if you didn’t speak English maybe, you’d still be able to feel the melody, or the sounds of the words. If you did, then the meaning would also flow. That’s sort of what I’m trying to do, I guess.”

För en bluesartist är det viktigt att ha en intressant bakgrundsberättelse och en av anledningarna till mytbildningen kring C.W. Stoneking är berättelserna om att han ska ha vuxit upp med Aboriginer, varit lärling till en shaman i New Orleans, blivit skeppsbruten i Kongo osv osv. Historier som förmodligen ska tas med en nypa salt.

Stonekings säregna röst har på senare år hörts i nya sammanhang, som t.ex på Jack Whites album ‘Boarding House Reach’ och i barnfilmen ‘Tome of the Unknown’ tillsammans med Elijah Wood. Kanske hörs han snart tillsammans med Kanye West.. vem vet?

Med sin banjo och gitarr i handen gör J Tex ofta resan över havet mellan Danmark och Sverige – och med sig har han sitt americana-sound av blues och countrymusik. Efter sex album och ett nytt på gång, hör han till en av Skandinaviens mest intressanta artister som tar lyssnaren på en hjärtvärmande och charmig resa genom ett ständigt föränderligt ljudbild av fioler, basklarinet, sång och naturligtvis hans lysande gitarr och banjoarbete. Allt som allt en mycket karismatisk och charmig personlighet som märks i hans liveuppträdanden.

Warm-Up DJ: DJ UNDERTAKER
Martin Kubista, aka Dj Undertaker är en av värdarna bakom Malmöklubbarna Klubb Beatmaker (soul, funk, beat, ska, garage från 60 och 70-talet) och Tequila Twist (wild rhythm’n’blues & rock’n’roll from the 50’s and 60’s). Han spelar ofta på klubbar i Malmö och Köpenhamn, såväl som på festivaler i Sverige, Danmark och övriga Europa. Alltid med en noga utvald dansant mix av ovanliga och klassiska vinyl-singlar i skivboxen.

This new sextet joined forces through their mutual love for modern jazz. The term ”bebop” has often been ill-fated, but this group puts exuberance back into this classic American style. Tunes by Tadd Dameron, Bud Powell, Arnett Cobb and Dizzy Gillespie are played in the three part harmony of the frontline, often in the original beautiful arrangements. Consisting of Amanda Sedgwick on alto sax and clarinet, Alexander Brott on guitar, Dwayne Clemons on trumpet, Carl Orrje on piano, Björn Lundén on bass and Mattias Puttonen on drums, this group has played at jazz clubs in Sweden, and also the occasional dance gig, disproving the fact that this music was constructed for the exclusive enjoyment of a concert audience.

Balboa

The term Balboa originally referred to a dance characterized by its close embrace and full body connection. It emphasizes rhythmic weight shifts and lead-follow partnership. Different dancers in the same region at the same time also danced “swing,” a dance characterized by twists, turns, and open-position movement. Over time, these two dances merged and became collectively known as Balboa. The original Balboa dance is now referred to as Pure Balboa, and the original “Swing” dance is now referred to as Bal-Swing or L.A. Swing to differentiate it from other types of swing. Because of its emphasis on subtlety and partnering rather than flashy tricks, Balboa (Pure Balboa in particular) is considered more of a “dancer’s dance” than a “spectator’s dance.”

LATASHA BARNES

LaTasha “Tasha” Barnes is an artist, dancer, entrepreneur, and ambassador of culture. Born and raised in Richmond, VA, Tasha has enjoyed much of her life immersed in jazz, funk, soul, and R&B music and dance thanks to her DJ father and dancing family. Having turned that lifelong passion into cultural activism she serves towards achieving the mission of Urban Artistry, Inc to preserve the arts that represent the urban experience, as a directing member, performer and educator. She is celebrated for her musicality, athleticism, and joyful presence throughout all her dance forms which include: House, Hip Hop, Waacking, Vernacular Jazz, and Lindy Hop. Through her own expression and endeavors Tasha hopes to inspire fellow artists to cultivate an authentic sense of self in their creative expressions and daily lives.

SHAG

The Collegiate Shag (or “Shag”) is a partner dance done primarily to uptempo swing and pre-swing jazz music (185-200+ beats per minute). It belongs to the swing family of American vernacular dances that arose in the 1920s and 30s. It is believed that the dance originated within the African American community of the Carolinas in the 1920s, later spreading across the United States during the 1930s. The shag is still danced today by swing dance enthusiasts worldwide.
