Extra Swing in the park | Just social dance all night | Wednesday 12/8

YES! Our great volunteers are arranging an extra Wednesday in the park. No drop-in class, just social dance 18:30–21:00.

Tonight there is no formal beginner taster class, but as usual, if you ask nicely, there’s likely someone happy to show you a few basic steps to get you started. DJ Todi is even ready to show you any of the 10 swing-related dances below.

• 18:30–21:00: Social dance in the park
• 21:00–23:00: Hangout at “Stallet” (behind Mejeriet)

NOTE! Bring your own food, snacks, and drinks to the social dance, and eat before we go to Mejeriet, as they will not be serving food this evening.

There will definitely not be an extra Swing in the Park next Wednesday, as our friends in Malmö start their Wednesday Night Hop August 19th.

Let’s celebrate the Swing Era with a partial solar eclipse in the park, dancing

Hundreds of styles of swing dancing were developed; those that have survived beyond that era include Charleston, Balboa, Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing, and Collegiate Shag.

One who danced swing was called a swing dancer. The term swing dancing is often extended to include West Coast Swing, Carolina Shag, East Coast Swing, Hand Dancing, Jive, Rock and Roll, Modern Jive, and other dances developed during the 1940s and later. A strong tradition of social and competitive Boogie Woogie and Rock ‘n’ Roll in Europe add these dances to their local swing dance cultures.

DJ Todi will prepare a playlist for:

• Lindy Hop
• Balboa
• Collegiate Shag
• Charleston
• Blues

But feel free to also dance some
– Jive
– Rock ‘n’ Roll
– Boogie Woogie
– Rockabilly
– West Coast Swing

• and who knows what else might creep in 😉

Todays social dance will start att 18:30 … and latest until 21:00 (It all depends for how long you’d like to dance…). And at 21:00 we head over to Mejeriet for some AfterDance hangout.

NO TASTER TODAY – but if you would like to learn some new swing dance move/style … ask DJ Todi (he dances ALL) and he can show you the basic footwork in all of the swing style … at a corner of the dance floor (while others dance close to the scene … the same way people learned how to dance back in the swing era … so celebrate the Swing era with the audacity to ask someone for help).
